Parents and educators are encouraged to attend one or more of our free in-person information sessions led by Director of Outreach Megan McGowan, an internationally recognized expert on teaching children with dyslexia.
Teaching Students to Read
Attendees will learn how the “reading brain” works, and why some children struggle with the acquisition of reading skills. You will participate in examples of the multisensory activities we utilize and discuss how the latest brain research influences our curriculum, our instructional approach, and our highly structured teaching techniques. Best of all, you will understand how we engage students and lay the groundwork for the development of a confident reader.
Teaching Students to Write
Jemicy’s explicit and systemic instruction will be demonstrated as we discuss our approach to teaching students to write, beginning with spelling, vocabulary development, and grammar. We will break down the extremely complex process of writing and explain how we teach the progression from sentence level writing to paragraphs and essays, and ultimately develop writers with a unique, confident style and voice.
