Adults will enjoy this hands-on, interactive workshop and leave with a deep understanding of multisensory language and literacy instruction. This in-person, small group course is offered to the general public as well as those in the Jemicy community. A teaching manual, digital workbook of materials, and a certificate of completion will be offered to qualified participants.

Participants will: 

  • Learn and understand the neural basis of reading development 
  • Explore all components of the acquisition of literacy, including oral language development, phonology (phonological & phonemic awareness, phonics), word recognition, spelling, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension
  • Understand the fundamentals of an Orton-Gillingham (OG) based lesson and the components of multisensory structured literacy instruction
  • Participate in a dyslexia simulation
  • Understand the early warning signs often displayed by students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences
  • Make useful hands-on materials and games to enhance instruction for all students
